After only a few decades, the chair has become a genuine classic and is now also available in a new version with a seat and backrest made of paper cord. Paper cord is, of course, not entirely new to Carl Hansen & Søn. The brand has a very long tradition of working with the material and it takes a skilled craftsman roughly eight hours to weave the back and seat of the Cuba Chair by hand.
The new MG501 Cuba Chair is crafted with a solid oak frame and cotton straps wrapping around the frame to form a comfortable seat and backrest, providing excellent support as they gently follow the contours of the body.
The foldable lounge chair is suitable as an additional seating option as well as a permanent fixture. Its lightweight and foldable frame can be hung on a wall for convenient storage or placed on a floor stand. The MG501 Cuba Chair with Paper Cord consequently represents everything that made Gøttler famous: clean, light aesthetic and thoughtful form, as well as designs with exquisite comfort and attention to detail—and all made from high-quality materials.

orn in Copenhagen in 1944 and originally trained as a shipping clerk, Morten Gøttler evolved into a self-taught designer and architect known for his exceptional understanding of wood as a material. He opened his own studio in 1972 and has been active in a variety of fields, including furniture design, interior design, packaging, toys, graphics and lighting. Gøttler’s clean, simple aesthetic, characterized by thoughtful form, exquisite comfort and attention to detail, is brought to life with high-quality materials.
